Pastor’s Perspective

June 2017

The combination of the cross, Easter and Pentecost provide the gift of freedom. The cross compassionately and gently speaks words of comfort that even in the darkest moments of despair and loss God is with us in our suffering and hope is not extinguished. Easter morning triumphantly shouts across the millennia that Christ through the resurrection has defeated death and sin forever! And the symbols of wind and fire tell of the gift of the Spirit empowering and guiding us as the church and as persons to serve with courage, and intelligence, and imagination. Combine the three, and we’ll find perfected freedom!

Our gift of freedom flows from the hand of the Giver of All Good Gifts, our Creator and our God. It opens the door to a life which can take one’s breath away in its grandeur. No one is shackled by the fear of “getting it right” and “earning” a place with Christ. These are given freely, and we’re then called to go out into the world with joy and share the eternal hope that we live as liberated people! God’s freedom comes from the hand of abundance. There is always enough, more than enough. The more of the freedom God offers we take, we discover even how much more exists. It’s a limitless proposition. We are free to serve and walk with God touching the Kingdom which lives, and moves and breaths around us and within us.

As we remember and celebrate our freedom rejoice in the freedom given “as the bread is broken and the cup poured.” Allow the freedom of grace through Jesus Christ to encompass all of your life. Break free of the pettiness and strife that can stifle full living, and breathe in the Spirit which draws you and me out into the fullness of life!

Peace,

Pastor Mike

A Thought to Ponder

In order to become myself I must cease to be what I always thought I wanted to be, and in order to find myself I must go out of myself, and in order to live I have to die. . .
